We've Moved!

Well, we ended up selling our house, which means we're on to the next project...that is, once we find a house! We closed at the beginning of August and couldn't find a house in the Fan, so we're living in an apartment in the area until we find something.

Although we've only been in our apartment for a couple of days, we're really enjoying it. It's the top floor of a duplex near several restaurants and bars in the area. There's a Starbucks at the end of our block, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (which just reopened in May) is two blocks away, and we can walk to our church near VCU. We're excited about being able to walk more often in this area, and I'm shopping Craig's List right now for a bike.

Shiloh is also adjusting to "city" life. There aren't as many green patches around, so she's learning take what she can find. Our apartment has a little backyard but it's mostly dirt and since it rained the last couple of days I haven't let her run around back there yet.

The Fan is known for its rowhouses that were built anywhere from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. They're long and narrow homes with hallways to match, high ceilings and lots of fireplaces. Here are some inside pictures of our apartment:

CLOSET

This room was originally called the "trunk room", which is usually located next to a bedroom and was literally where people would put their trunks full of clothes and other belongings. It's typically a smaller sized room, and most people turn them into master bathrooms, large closets (like ours), a nursery or an office.

KITCHEN- Before

When I saw this kitchen for the first time I knew I had to paint it. I know I'm ridiculous- we're only staying here temporarily, but I really hated the bright orange walls and ceramic blue tile (no offense UVA fans) so I painted them one afternoon. The new color is a light gray called "Stonington Gray" by Benjamin Moore.

I love the old fireplaces in these homes!

View of the neighbor's yard- it's giving me inspiration!

  1. Do you want my bike? I'm serious. It is way old but works just fine. I haven't ridden it consistently since college, but all the tires need is a bit of air.
